La Naturaleza del Software: the book

For several years now one of my “dreams” has been to publish books, not one but several, which is pretty ambitious really :). In part, much of what I have written on this blog has been preparation for that, and now I feel ready to take that step.

For some time I have been exploring new media for spreading my ideas. One of the first has been the regular chat we hold with my friends Marco and Ubaldo on El Test Acido. There, the conversation in front of the webcam, with several of you joining in, has been an enriching and entertaining experience.

Another avenue has been taking this blog to the public through various presentations, which I have given at some universities and, recently, with my participation in StartechConf 2013 (here is the video).

But collecting many of these writings in a book is the most ambitious step I have taken. So, taking advantage of the possibilities technology gives us, I have decided to self-publish, and as of today my first e-book is available on Amazon: La Naturaleza del Software Volumen 1 (in Spanish).

Starting today you can read a selection taken from the first seven years of this blog. There are 32 articles, specially edited and in some cases expanded, grouped into 4 parts, in around 160 pages, which I hope you enjoy as much as I enjoyed selecting the texts.

This first edition is available in digital format for the Kindle e-reader. You don’t need a Kindle device to read it; there are apps for iOS, Android, Windows Phone, PC and Mac. You will find all of these apps on this Amazon page: http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?docId=1000493771.

I am working on the paper version of the book, though I am looking into publishing it on Amazon itself, or through some other publisher (if anyone knows one who might be interested, you can reach me in the comments). So when I have the paper edition I will let you know.

I hope to continue this adventure with new volumes and formats (on other platforms too, such as iBooks). There is a lot of material that was left out and deserves to be collected in this special way.

So that is what I wanted to share with you. I am happy to be able to hand you this work of mine, which I hope you receive with the same enthusiasm with which you have received the posts of the last eight years on this site. I look forward to seeing you there, and I thank you in advance for your interest in this book. It is like a new child you bring into the world. Now it is time for it to fly and live on its own, and I, like any father, am proud of it...
