Mathematics and truth
Emilio Lledó, professor of the History of Philosophy and member of the Royal Spanish Academy, also champions mathematics as a light to shine on a world of manipulated information. "This science is a constant struggle with the truth because in it, in its exactness, there is no room for lying ideas". Lledó recalls its etymology: from the Greek máthema, to learn. And not only to learn, but to experience. And not only to experience, but to deduce. And not only to deduce, but to prove. And not only to prove, but to be in contact with what is true. "And all this", he laments, "cannot be very fashionable in a universe that tends toward falsehood".
