Digital inactivism
The second law of thermodynamics states that for every closed system, the “internal chaos” (or the interactions of the system’s internal components) will inevitably reach a point of “equilibrium”, where the system turns into a “lukewarm mass”, since there are no transfers of heat (energy).
To be more precise, when the system reaches its maximum entropy, the internal transfers of energy end, taking the system to a permanent equilibrium (or a “continuous lethargy”, of “non-life”, which looks a lot like “death”).
For these systems to “come back to life”, new relationships with their environment have to be established, “opening up the systems”. Those relationships generate new “conflicts” or “interactions” (or new states of chaos), in which “life is created” (through the new interactions).
Taken from this article by Maz, by far the best reflection I’ve read lately on the navel-gazing of the national blogosphere (and twittersphere), and on how little real effect so-called digital activism has.
It may be that despite flapping their elbows so much, people still can’t manage to fly…
