Who's up for buying the .chile TLD?
As Ben Laurie says, the most useless of organizations, ICANN, has come up with a new way to keep making money, a new cash cow, by allowing thousands of new TLDs to be registered.
The biggest expansion of the Internet in 40 years
Nice soundbite for the press release from ICANN, which will be copied word for word by the sheep in the press, who don’t understand technology and are incapable of digging a little deeper, because the truth is that the internet doesn’t expand one millimeter with this measure. Only ICANN’s deep pockets do (and those of anyone shrewd enough to buy a TLD).
They say you have to invest 100,000 dollars to buy a TLD.
So there’s a business opportunity for you: buy the .chile TLD, a whole new market to cash in on, because I assure you that all the thousands who already registered under .cl are going to want their .chile domain. But, as Laurie points out, that doesn’t mean the NIC will stop losing money. In the end users don’t benefit, and neither do registrants, only those who run these TLDs.
ICANN has managed to build a machine for creating monopolies. How wonderful! A worthy case study for economists.
Now, if you really are a true anarchist hacker, you know it’s possible to have your own TLD, or you can take part in projects like OpenNIC, a more democratic and open mechanism than that racket called ICANN.
