One PlayStation per child
President Bachelet announces:
In March 2009, we will give a computer to the boys and girls from the most vulnerable 40 percent of the population who enter seventh grade that year and who are in the top 30 percent of their class by grade average. We are talking about more than 30 thousand personal computers, which the students will take home and use with their siblings, families and friends.
Which shows they haven’t understood a thing, and the one computer per child campaign will probably have to refocus its message to make it clear that this is not about prizes for effort, it’s about handing out educational tools, so that we reduce the number of technological illiterates in our country (illiterates who are hurting us as a country).
Because the idea is to raise the educational level of all children. Computers for kids are not a prize for effort, they are educational tools.
Peru, right now, is deploying 260,000 computers, more than 8 times what President Bachelet announced! In Uruguay every child will have a PC, every one.
If the idea were to reward the effort of the kids who perform best, then I propose they be rewarded with a PlayStation, or a Wii (Wii Fit for the chubbier ones).
