Goodbye, Netscape

Today they announced that Netscape is being discontinued.

I don’t remember exactly how it happened, I think somebody at the DCC handed me a tar file (Willy, or Edo Rodriguez?), but I remember installing a browser on a Sun, running it, and after an eternity downloading a web page with a picture of the Mona Lisa on it.

Late ‘92? March of ‘93?

That was the first time I ever browsed the web. A few years later Andreessen, the author of Mosaic, creates Netscape, gets filthy rich, and well, you know everything that happened after that.
