Nullius addictus jurare in verba magistris

Thus spoke Zarathustra:

Now, dear disciples, I go on my way alone. You too, go your own way, alone. That is my will. My advice, truly, is that you get away from me and avoid me; better still, that you be ashamed of me, because who knows whether I have deceived you. The man of knowledge must not only know how to love his enemies, he must also hate his friends. One repays a teacher badly by always remaining his disciple. Why don’t you pluck the leaves from my crown? You venerate me; but what if one fine day your veneration comes crashing down? Take care that my statue does not crush you! You say you believe in Zarathustra; but what does that matter to Zarathustra? You are my believers, but what do all believers matter? You found me before you had gone looking for yourselves. That is what happens to all believers; that is why their faith is worth so little. Now I command you to lose me and find yourselves; and only when you have all denied me will I be among you again. Then I will seek my lost sheep with different eyes, my brothers; and then I will love you with a different love.
