The requirements for Windows Vista
ArsTechnica has just published a piece on the requirements for Windows Vista.
For those who are interested, here’s a summary:
An 800 MHz CPU, 512 MB of RAM, and a DirectX 9.0-compatible graphics card.
However, OEM machines that want to carry the “Vista Premium” sticker must meet these specs:
HD Audio support that passes the High Fidelity tests defined by Microsoft’s labs.
Support for Direct3D 9 and DXGI (Direct3D 10 is mandatory by June 1, 2008).
At least one digital output (for example DVI-D) on all additional video adapters.
100 Mb Ethernet and/or WiFi networking support (802.11g must be supported; 802.11a may be supported only in addition to 802.11g).
USB 2.0 ports.
Resume from the ACPI S3 state (“suspend-to-ram”) in under 2 seconds. And the total time to “wake up” must not take more than 2 seconds.
