Free software and the Age of Aquarius
Free software is an option, not an obligation, but declaring it one of the pillars for building an Aquarian utopia strikes me as too much. Please read this article: La Alternativa Mundial Acuario, especially point 7.
I shouldn’t have written about this kind of lunacy, but the problem is that open source gets talked about so much that it is turning into a kind of religion, which I consider dangerous.
The true nature of free software needs to be made clear.
It is not a means of lifting underdeveloped nations out of poverty,
nor a catalyst for internet adoption, nor is it the end
of viruses, or the solution to every problem in computing.
Open or free software is neither better nor worse than proprietary software. It is just one more alternative, which has its advantages in certain contexts, and in others does not apply.
