Linux in retreat

This article on silicon tells how Unilever is backing out of its project to migrate everything to Linux. According to Unilever’s CIO: “the cost benefits originally used to justify the risk of the migration are no longer there.”

The idea was to migrate its Unix servers to Linux on Itanium, and then migrate SAP to run on Linux.

Unilever has an 800 million euro infrastructure, and the project projected savings of 63 million. In any case they will make changes, but on a much smaller scale.
