Microsoft patents
I read on FayerWayer that Apple is losing rights over the Ipod software to Microsoft, which claims to hold an earlier patent.
Well, in case you didn’t know, Microsoft has been publishing patents in Chile for a long time, as you can see in the Diario Oficial (the government gazette) for June, July and August 2005
A google search
turns up only a few results. Unfortunately there is no free access to
the full content of the Diario Oficial, but if you read the summaries,
in the “Patentes de Invención” (invention patents) section you will
notice Microsoft showing up. The reason? USA patents are not valid in
Chile.
It is truly surprising.
If anyone has a password for the Diario Oficial, they could contribute the content of some of these patents. I have read a couple of them in the printed gazette, and the Chilean process for accepting patents is honestly shameful.
I have nothing against Microsoft, but I am against software patents.
